Mixed Plastic Collection *New*

Chelmsford Borough Council has now expanded the kerbside plastic collection scheme beginning 7th December, so now you can recycle even more.

Until now only plastic bottles could be recycled on the kerbside scheme, but due to the overwhelming demand from Chelmsford householders you can now recycle a wider range of plastics in your clear sacks.

Your plastics are collected on a fortnightly basis together with you paper sack.

Please place your clear sack for plastics in a safe place on the boundary of your property by 7:30am on the morning of your collection. The sack will need to be in a safe location where it can easily be seen by the collection crew.

What plastics can I recycle in kerbside collection?

Yes please:

• All plastic bottles including household cleaner bottles, shampoo bottles and medicine bottles
• Plastic bottle lids
• Plastic ready meal and food trays
• Ice cream containers and margarine tubs
• Yogurt pots
• Fruit and vegetable punnets
• Plastic carrier bags
• Cling film and plastic film 

No thank you:

• Video/cassette tapes or CD/DVD cases
• Plastic toys
• Washing up bowls and lunch boxes
• Bubble wrap
• Expanded polystyrene packaging
• Polystyrene food trays
• Large items such as garden furniture  

(As a general rule, we can not accept hard plastic. This is because it can not be reprocessed in the same way)  

Please Remember

• It is very important that all the plastic is clean and free of food traces.
• White plastic carrier bags can also be used, but not black ones. Please tie the bags at the top.

What are my plastics recycled into?  

Your plastic bottles are recycled into new food and drinks packaging
Other types of plastic are recycled into window frames, street signs and garden furniture
