Recycling Information

Residents of Chelmsford have increased their recycling rate to approximately 38% in 2009.

Image depicting Freighter HouseWell done to everyone for helping to increase Chelmsford's household recycling rate again this year. This has been achieved through the use of the kerbside collection scheme, flats collection scheme and a wider range of collection facilities across Chelmsford.

Now with Chelmsford's new kerbside mixed plastic collection starting from 7 December, we will be able to waste less and recycle even more.

Kerbside Collection Scheme

If you live in a house you are entitled to the following recycling collection facilities: 

  • Brown Bin (for garden waste)
  • Card Sack
  • Green Box  (for tins, glass and textiles)
  • Paper Sack
  • Plastic Clear Sacks  (for plastic bottles and other plastic materials starting from 7 December)

Flats Collection Scheme

If you live in a flat please use the following recycling bins located on the premises:

  • Cans Bank (for foil and cans)
  • Clear Glass Bank
  • Coloured Glass Bank
  • Paper Bank
