Still Time to Tell us your Thoughts on Responsible Dog Ownership

Chelmsford Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Parks and Heritage, Councillor Christopher Kingsley is encouraging more people to take part in a consultation aimed at creating a Code of Conduct for responsible dog ownership at Hylands Park: "We are seeking the feedback of all park users, whether they are dog lovers or not. It is important to capture a range of views as the park is used in a number of ways by residents and visitors. Potential restrictions will only apply to around three per cent of the park where humans, vehicles and animals are in close contact."

Tuesday 2 February

So far, over 170 people have submitted their views either by completing the online form through the Council's website or filling in a questionnaire at the Hylands Stable Visitor Centre.

Council officers will be available at the forthcoming Farmers' Market on Sunday 7 February to answer questions on the consultation and assist visitors in completing feedback forms.

The Council has received support from local dog-friendly organisations including KC Dog, The Kennel Club's responsible dog owners group. Kennel Club Communications Director, Caroline Kisko said: "The Kennel Club is delighted to see Chelmsford taking such positive action to promote and encourage responsible dog ownership, rather than resorting to the threat of fines and prosecution. We will work together in partnership with the Council to resolve any outstanding areas of concern."

The survey is available to complete online now at www.chelmsford.gov.uk/haveyoursay. Paper copies are also available for completion. These can be picked up from the Stable Visitor Centre between 10am - 4pm.

The closing date for all consultation comments is Sunday 14 February 2010.
