Chelmsford Council Receives Prison Application

Chelmsford Borough Council has now received a planning application from the Ministry of Justice for a new 1500 person training prison on the site of the former Runwell Hospital, Runwell Chase, Runwell, Wickford, Essex, SS11 7XX.

Wednesday 27 January 2010

The Council will now check the application submission to ensure it contains all relevant and necessary information in order for the application to be formally registered and published to the Council's website, with links from the Runwell Hospital pages at www.chelmsford.gov.uk/runwellhospital. Verifying and registering the application will take one week for an application of this size and complexity. Once registered, copies of the application will also be made available to view at the Planning Reception in the Civic Centre, Chelmsford, and at the South Woodham Ferrers Community Information Centre.

Following registration, the Council will begin formal consultation including displaying site notices, newspaper advertisements and will write to local residents and other interested parties to formally notify them of the planning application. This process may take a couple of weeks from receipt of the planning application. The Borough Council will also be arranging a public meeting, and residents will be notified in due course. In the meantime, residents and others interested in this application can contact the Planning Helpdesk on 01245 606826, visit www.chelmsford.gov.uk/runwellprison or by email on town.planning@chelmsford.gov.uk.
