The next 3foot People Festival

This year, Chelmsford will host one of only 66 national Olympic Torch Relay evening celebrations. 2012 sees a change in the programme of events as the town makes way for the arrival of the Olympic Flame on Friday 6th July at Hylands Park. This will be celebrated with a family-friendly spectacular 'Sparks will Fly: Essex Finale - Chelmsford welcomes the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay'.

This free event for 15,000 people will open with the Olympic Torch Relay evening celebration stage show and the arrival of the flame in Chelmsford. The event will close with the finale of 'Sparks will Fly in Essex' a county-wide cultural festival celebrating London 2012. Further details and free tickets for the whole event will be available from March.

On the following day at 7am, the Olympic Torch will make a tour through Chelmsford Town Centre. Details of the exact route will be announced in the summer. To round off the year's programme, ESSEXstreetdiversions will take place on Saturday 29th September marking the 10th anniversary of this free festival of international outdoor performance. The 3foot People and The Fling festivals will be taking a well-deserved year-off in 2012. These popular events, unique to Chelmsford will return, bigger and better than ever in 2013 and will be well worth the wait.

The activities for this event are specially selected for their suitability for the very young and include art & craft, music & movement, a giant sand pit, storytelling and much more. Adult carers also have lots to do, with information and advice about parenthood available from several organisations.

Refreshments, bottle warming facilities and space to take time-out from all the activity were also all available onsite at The 3foot People Festival.

As far as we are aware, The 3foot People Festival is the only event of its kind in the country!

The 3foot People Festival is created and managed by the Cultural Events Team at Chelmsford Borough Council with support from Play and Parks Services, Seymour House Day Nursery Schools, M&G Investments, Meadows Shopping, The Essex Chronicle, Essex & Suffolk Water, The Printing Place, BBC Essex and High Chelmer.
