Saturday 11 September to Sunday 26 September 2010. Take a journey through Chelmsford's streets and join the celebration of the Arts! The Chelmsford Arts Trail will be hitting the town's streets again in September where over 50 of the hottest local artists will join together with local businesses, organisations and Chelmsford Borough Council to transform town centre locations into mini galleries.
The annual event aims to develop new audiences for the arts in Chelmsford, support local artists to raise their profile, exhibit and sell their works within the town as well as support for local small business development. Dedicated to the promotion of culture in the town, this event attracted over 6,000 visitors to art exhibitions, shops and businesses in 2009. The Trail is a free opportunity to view a vibrant mix of contemporary art, including installation and textiles, sculpture, photography, painting, prints, illustration and ceramics. Most of the work is for sale so art lovers can buy local art at affordable prices. Artists this year have raised the bar with their high quality pieces and innovative ideas. Textured sculpture, public art, vinyl floor art, an art swap shop, quirky performance art, an open-air cinema, new artist led studios and inventive photography projects are key to the 2010 Chelmsford Arts Trail collection. Artists of all ages will bring you a vibrant celebration of the town's cultural scene, with exhibits from local schools, colleges, universities, independent artists, artist groups and successful creative business owners. This year will see the return of the popular Anonymous Art Postcard Sale hosted by interior angle, the west end art gallery in Wells Street. For just £15, art lovers can own an affordable mini original. In addition to this, the gallery will be hosting an exhibition showcasing the work of selected artists in the Trail, where you will be able to meet and see the artists at work. If you are a local artist, there will be opportunities to meet other artists like yourself and gain inspiration from their work. The Shiny Shed art swap-shop is the perfect place to drop in and leave your artistic mark on Chelmsford as well as support others to start using their creative talents. Visit The Shiny Shed for information on all events and activities. You are also invited to apply to be a part of the Trail as artists of all backgrounds and art forms are welcome to put themselves forward. If you would like to try your hand at being an artist during the Trail, there will be opportunities to learn from the best of the local talent. In addition to the Trail, visitors can enjoy a visit to the studios of many local artists, including a new artist led space the Hive artist Studios based in Beehive Lane, Chelmsford.
