Are you interested in becoming a volunteer Park Watcher? Working with other volunteers ensuring parks and open spaces become even more enjoyable to use by the local community? Local community involvement is central to the Volunteer Park Warden scheme, especially the Park Watchers and will ensure the long-term sustainability of the project.
You will be working as part of a team of volunteer Watchers, with support from the Park Ranger, the Community Service Manager and the local police. Normally you will be expected to Park Watch as support to the Ranger patrols to enable cover to be maximised. Most Watchers will watch whilst doing their normal use of the parks but occasionally special projects will involve volunteers using extra time to their normal routines. At no time should volunteers confront other members of the public concerning anti-social behaviour: The role of the Park Watcher is purely to report and record information. How did Park Watchers originate? Chelmsford Park Watchers is an existing scheme based on the idea of Neighbourhood Watch. It is used in Chelmsford's Parks as a means of providing extra eyes and ears from members of the public to support our Parks staff and local police in caring for their local parks by reporting incidents of antisocial behaviour. What is the main aim of the Park Watchers? To provide involvement for local people in their local open space, to support the existing Park Ranger service and to provide an improved service reporting on antisocial behaviour in Parks and Local Green Spaces to the police or ParkWatch report line to allow swift action to occur when relevant. How with the Park Watchers achieve this aim? With the involvement of local people, to establish a network of eyes and ears across the borough, to improve the speed of reporting antisocial behaviour so that the police can act faster to catch the perpetrators in action leading to successful convictions, ensuring that open spaces and parks of the local community becoming even more pleasant to use. The scheme covers the whole of Chelmsford Borough, involving local people with their local green spaces.
