Mobile Customer Information Service

For over two years, Chelmsford Borough Council has offered a free service to some of the most isolated or vulnerable communities within the borough to ensure that everyone has access to Council services. The Mobile Customer Information Service provides residents with access to all relevant information on their doorstep, and the Council is pleased to be able to offer further sessions throughout 2010.

The Council's Mobile Customer Information team visits ten rural communities around the borough, or where public transport is perhaps less frequent, to make sure that residents with the greatest need for advice and support, such as the elderly, young families and those with mobility requirements, have access to information and advice about Council services. There is no need for an appointment, just drop in between the designated times.

This service is available to help with a wide range of enquiries, including providing information on receiving help with Housing Benefit or Council Tax, applying for a free bus pass (if you are over 60), reporting environmental problems and having your say on local planning applications.  The service was extended to Rettendon, Boreham and Bicknacre during 2009.

Many of the visits are attended by partner organisations who may wish to promote or deliver their service via the Mobile Customer Information Service. These include Essex Police, Essex Fire & Rescue Service, Voluntary Services, Chelmsford Children's Centre and several Chelmsford Borough Council Services, i.e. Environmental Services and Planning Services. I am pleased to say that the PCSO teams from Essex Police are keen to attend all sessions and will be on hand to offer help and advice on Police matters.

The full Mobile Working Report can be viewed via the link at the top of the page.
