Representatives of the Scout Association from around the world came to Hylands Park on Friday 23 February to visit the location of the 21st World Scout Jamboree taking place in July and August this year. 05 March 2007
The Scout representatives included World Scout Representative Lucia Chebett who flew in from Kenya, Sennie Oh from South Korea, Janice Wu from Hong Kong, Waal Buchnack from Lebanon, Radu Seuche from Romania, and the Secretary General of the World Scout Movement, Eduardo Missoni. The visitors were greeted by Cabinet Member for Parks, Heritage and Community, Councillor Maureen Moulds, Chelmsford Borough Council Director for Parks and Heritage Services, Sue Ireland and Chairman of Essex County Council, Councillor Gerard McEwen. Chelmsford Borough Council presented the visitors with commemorative books about Chelmsford and welcomed them to the Borough. Councillor Maureen Moulds said "Chelmsford has had a long association with the Scouts and we are very much looking forward to welcoming young people from all over the world again this summer. Not only will the Jamboree put Chelmsford in the global spotlight, but the Borough will see real benefits from hosting our global visitors, in the shape of the many community projects that the Scouts will undertake during their time here." Essex County Council presented the Scout Association with a cheque for £30,000 - a donation which will enable Scouts from developing countries to attend the Jamboree. Cllr Gerard McEwen, the Chairman of Essex County Council commented, "We are delighted to be able to support this event, which will be a once-in-a-life time experience for all involved. This is a great opportunity to showcase Essex and we greatly look forward to welcoming the World Scout Jamboree to our wonderful county." PR073735
