Events such as ESSEXstreetdiversions, Chelmsford Beer Festival, The Chelmsford Cathedral Festival and the 3foot People Festival will ensure that 2007 is a spectacular summer for Chelmsford.

Since December 2006 the Council's Special Events Team have been sifting through the numerous event submissions from individuals, businesses and community groups, keen for their event to be part of the celebrations. Following the deadline in February, a final list of 83 events for all ages and interests has now been selected.

The programme will begin on Thursday 10 May with the Chelmsford Cathedral Festival Beer Tasting in Guy Harlings Gardens and the Anglia Ruskin Charity Run & Walk, in aid of the Helen Rollason Cancer Care Centre Appeal. The following eleven week programme will be packed with dozens of different events, such as Essex County Cricket matches, the Essex Young Farmers Show, a series of 'Audience with' evenings at the Civic Theatre, an 'X Factor' style karaoke competition, Taste of Essex Food & Drink Festival and many more.

Celebrate Chelmsford will culminate with the free ESSEXstreetdiversions Twilight Spectacle on Thursday 26 July in Admirals Park. Spectators will experience a stunning finale featuring international theatre company 'Commandos Percu' with their drumming and pyrotechnic extravaganza.

Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, Councillor Christopher Kingsley, is thrilled with the response from community event organisers and said, "I am overjoyed by the number and variety of events that have been submitted for Celebrate Chelmsford. The programme is a rich blend of established events and festivals, alongside brand new events for 2007. Celebrate Chelmsford will highlight the wide range of skills and talents that exist in our borough and what we can offer to visitors."

Celebrate Chelmsford is devised and managed by the Special Events Team at Chelmsford Borough Council and made possible with thanks to The Essex Chronicle, Essex & Suffolk Water, Essex FM, The Printing Place, Meadows Shopping Centre, High Chelmer Shopping Centre, Chelmsford Star Coop, Family Mosaic, BBC Essex, Quadrant department store, Anglia Ruskin University's Institute of Health and Social Care and M&G Investments.
