Supporters of the Chelmsford Fairtrade Town Campaign have organised a number of local events between 26 February and 11 March in support of national Fairtrade Fortnight. Chelmsford Fairtrade Town Campaign will be staging an exhibition in the public square of Chelmsford Library from 25 February to 3 March. The theme is 'change today - choose Fairtrade'. 13 February 2007
Councillor Phillip Wilson, Cabinet Member for Corporate Services, said "This will be a fantastic two weeks that should help to raise awareness. Chelmsford Fairtrade Town Campaign is attracting support from a large number of people. It is really important that this enthusiasm continues and that we continue to spread the Fairtrade message locally." Chelmsford is recognised regionally for the positive role it plays in promoting Fairtrade. The town was the first in Essex and only the third in the Eastern region to be awarded Fairtrade status, and recently this status was renewed for a third year. The local campaign is supported by Chelmsford Borough Council and various community organisations, churches, shops, schools and individuals across the town. There is still time for more businesses, organisations, community groups and individuals to support Fairtrade Fortnight. Chelmsford Town Fairtrade Campaign is encouraging people to: - Bring Fairtrade coffee, tea and hot chocolate into their workplace.
- Ask their work canteen to switch to selling fair trade coffee and tea or to put on a fair trade 'dish of the day' during the fortnight.
- Hold a meeting/discussion on Fairtrade.
- Display leaflets, stickers and posters.
- Set up a Fairtrade sampling stand and/or a stall where people can buy fair trade products.
