New Children's Club for South Woodham Ferrers

A new children's activity club at Chelmsford Borough Council's South Woodham Ferrers Leisure Centre, is proving to be a resounding success. Since it started in January, most sessions of the "Activity Bug Club" have been fully booked.

The club takes place between 9.30am and 11.30am on Saturday mornings for children between the ages of six and ten. Activities include trampolining, art and craft, cricket, rugby, rounders, use of the new climbing wall and much more. The sessions take up to 60 children and are open to all, including those with a disability. Sessions cost just £2.50 each, and places can be booked up to six days in advance by calling 01245 605600.

John Ayris, the Centre Manager, said, "Places sell out very fast with our phone lines busy with callers from Sunday morning for the following weeks' session. We are encouraged by the response to this new club, and hope that those unfamiliar with the Centre's facilities will come along to try it out."

Councillor Christopher Kingsley, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, said, "I am extremely pleased that this new club has been so well received. Clubs like this can really help to keep young people active and improve their health and lifestyle."

The Council secured over £10,000 of funding towards this project from the Mid-Essex Primary Care Trust and Sport England. It was developed after consultation in local primary schools, where 98 per cent of respondents identified a real need for such a club.
