On Monday 22January 2007, Chelmsford Borough Council hosted a Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy (CIPFA) South East training workshop on an introduction to the new statement of recommended practice (SORP).The workshop, kindly sponsored by Reed Accountancy, featured Roman Haluszczak of the Institute of Public Finance (IPF) as guest speaker.

The event provided an excellent opportunity for Essex based finance professionals not only to get to grips with this highly topical issue which will have a significant impact over the coming year, but also to share knowledge with CIPFA members from across the County.

Maldon District Council were delighted that the event attracted over seventy people. MDC Chief Executive Steve Watson said, "As Chairman of the CIPFA South East Region my colleagues and I have been working very hard to encourage the development of active and vibrant local sections.  It was therefore extremely welcome that Chelmsford BC agreed to host and arrange an inaugural meeting of a re-launched Essex Division, and encouraging that so many attended.  CIPFA's role as a promoter of excellence in Public Sector Financial Management means that this is no longer just a club for those with CIPFA membership, but is open to any with an interest in this field.  I will look forward to attending many future events of the Essex Division."

Chelmsford Borough Council Director of Finance Nick Eveleigh, commented "I am very pleased that Chelmsford had been asked to host this initial event. The commitment of Steve and his team at CIPFA South East is clearly reflected in the high level of interest shown by those who attended the workshop. I wish this new initiative every success for the future."
