Chelmsford has a new Mayor, Councillor Margaret Hutchon took on the chain of office at Chelmsford Borough Council's Annual Council meeting on Wednesday. Councillor Hutchon, Ward Member for Great Baddow West, has been a Councillor since 1983. She has served on many committees including as chairman of the former Housing Committee and as Executive Member for Housing and Welfare until 2003. She was heavily involved in the establishment of Chelmer Housing Partnership and has a particular interest in social housing. Between 1983 and 1987 Councillor Hutchon was also a member of Great Baddow Parish Council.
She has a number of community and charity roles including chairman of the trustee board of Chelmsford Citizen Advice Bureau and Chairman of The League of Friends of Hargrave House, a Great Baddow Charity for youngsters with learning difficulties. Born in Wimbledon, Councillor Hutchon moved to Scotland in the early 1940s before returning to England and settling in Great Baddow in 1967. She spent her working life in the local health service, and continues this work whilst semi retired. Her family consists of husband Jim, son, Jamie, daughter-in-law Rachel and three grandchildren. The new Mayor's charities are the Helen Rollason HEAL Cancer Charity and Families In Focus, a support group for families with children under 19 suffering with a wide spectrum of disabilities.
