Welcome to the Corporate Grant Aid Pages. These pages provide information to Voluntary and Community Organisations about the Council's Corporate Grant Aid Scheme and how to apply.

Everything on these web pages is also available in alternative formats including Braille, large print, audio tape and other languages. Please call 01245 606289, Minicom 01245 606444, Fax 01245 606476 if this is a requirement.

Why we provide grants

The Council provides a number of grants in order to 'engage with the voluntary and community sector to enable improvements to quality of life for residents of the Borough as envisaged in the Community Plan, providing, if appropriate, support to organisations and individuals through a transparent process of community support and grant schemes'  (Grant Aid Policy).

What we mean by a 'Grant'

We define a 'grant' as 'the giving of money or benefits on a discretionary basis to improve community well-being in accordance with the Council's priorities and those of the Community Plan' (Grant Aid Policy, Revised July 2006).

Types of grants that can be applied for

Core Funding

Core costs are the day to day running costs for your normal operations e.g. rent, utilities, staffing costs etc...

Capital Funding

These costs relate to your purchase of an asset e.g. computer equipment, furniture, software etc....

Project Funding

This is the cost of your organisation doing something in addition to your normal activities that requires extra funds.

You can apply for more than one type of funding.

The Council support the principles of Full Cost Recovery, which means that you can also ask for a contribution towards your core costs if you apply for Capital and/or Project Funding.

For more information on Full Cost Recovery follow the link on the right.

Grant Aid Policy

The Grant Aid policy outlines the main eligibility criteria for applicants and the conditions under which grants are awarded.

The policy also provides a list of priorities from the Community and Councils Corporate Plan. Applicants should recognise how their project contributes to one or more of those priorities.

You can download a copy of the Grant Aid Policy from the link on the right.

Grants are also awarded in line with the Chelmsford Borough Compact which can be downloaded from the link on the right.
