Bees

Bees are generally viewed as beneficial insects as a result of their role in pollination and production of honey.

There are two main types of bees in this country - solitary bees and social bees. The best known are the social bees, which include "honey bees" and "bumble bees" which form colonies (swarms).  If you have a swarm of honey bees that needs to be removed please contact the appropriate beekeeper via the Chelmsford Beekeepers link on the right hand side.  Please note you will have to click on the link for Swarms once on this site.

Less well known are the solitary bees. These are, however, by far the largest group with over 200 species. The most common solitary bees are mortar and masonry bees and mining bees.
