Do you Dig 'Time Team '?

Child with Roman Costume
Metal Detecting

People of all ages are encouraged to visit Chelmsford Museum on Saturday 22nd August to join in a day of archaeological activities.

Nick Wickenden, the Museums Manager  for Chelmsford City Council explains: “we have been running this day for a number of years, and all the old favourites will be back. The emphasis is all about having a go, trying out things, and handling things. For instance children will be able to make a Roman clay oil lamp and mosaic, or a medieval decorated floor tile, to take home with them. They will be able to sort out sieved remains from a dig with tweezers.

We have also teamed up with Heritage Writtle,  an amateur archaeological group from Writtle, who will be showing people how to dowse and metal detect .

There will also be an opportunity to get those mystery objects  found  in your garden identified, added Nick Wickenden.

The museum is in Oaklands Park, Moulsham Street. Opening times are from 10.00 to 5.00pm, and admission and car parking is free.

There is a small charge of £2 to cover costs of some of the craft activities.

Phone the museum on 01245 605700.
